About This Coin
The legendary 1911 "Pig Rupee", British India's most famous controversy coin. Struck in .917 fine silver at the Bombay Mint. The elephant on the collar of the King-Emperor's robe closely resembled a pig, provoking protests from both Hindu and Muslim communities and leading to immediate suspension, recall, and redesign in 1912. Authenticated and certified by NGC in Gem Mint State MS-64.
The Bombay Mint issue (mint mark \'B\') is one of the most collected varieties. Struck in 50% silver, this coin represents a transition from the British era to independent India and holds immense historical and numismatic value.
