About This Coin
The undisputed Holy Grail of British India numismatics. Struck in 1939 in .917 fine silver just as World War II erupted. Due to wartime silver hoarding and soaring bullion prices, the British Raj recalled the entire mintage for melting, transitioning to 50% quaternary alloy in 1940. Only a minuscule population escaped the melting pot. Certified PCGS MS-63 with intense original cartwheel luster.
The Bombay Mint issue (mint mark \'B\') is one of the most collected varieties. Struck in 50% silver, this coin represents a transition from the British era to independent India and holds immense historical and numismatic value.
